Mol-Son was presented with a request to design a completely new transmission connector system. Mol-Son's team of product design engineers, mold design engineers, and mold makers combined to produce over 30 individual components from design concept to manufacturing, meeting the customer's required time schedule. The average time for tool design, manufacture, and first samples was thirteen weeks.

The program consisted of numerous unique, sophisticated, connector assembly designs to accommodate several unique environments. These included bolt and threaded insert, cam lock, and bayonet twist lock cam designs. In addition to the assembly methods used, expert knowledge of snap fit, living hinges, and ultrasonic welding allowed the possibility of a variety of designs.

The team's knowledge of materials and expertise was needed and utilized in designing these sealed connector systems to operate effectively in the high temperature transmission fluid environment as well as the other rigorous physical environments of exposure. Mol-Son's long history and experience in designing sealed connector systems and close alliances with several knowledgeable seal manufacturers supported the development of these unique product requirements.

As part of this design effort, Mol-Son was successful in replacing an existing cast and machined aluminum transmission component with an as molded engineered plastic component, additionally reducing costs.

Mol-Son's program management discipline successfully led the team from concept to final approval and provided the customer with a single point of contact and continuous communication.
